Situated within a quiet cul-de-sac in Brighton East, this pair of four-bedroom dwellings explores the relationship between repetition and individuality, between shared architectural language and subtle distinction. Conceived as companion houses, the project pursues a calm and enduring presence within its suburban context through the disciplined composition of form, material, and light.

Each residence is expressed through a restrained palette of limed brickwork and vertical timber batons. Together, the two façades establish a cohesive streetscape presence while maintaining a sense of spatial rhythm and variation through nuanced detailing and the modulation of openings. The intent is not to replicate, but to create harmony between two autonomous homes that speak to one another across a shared boundary.

Internally, both dwellings unfold around a central idea of light as structure. The spatial sequence begins with a sculptural staircase that serves as the primary organising element, its curved geometry and overhead skylight introducing a moment of vertical release upon entry. Ground floor plans are arranged to promote both intimacy and openness, with home offices and circular powder rooms leading to expansive living areas framed by floor-to-ceiling glazing. These transparent edges extend the interiors toward limestone terraces, creating a continuous dialogue between architecture and landscape.

The kitchens anchor the social heart of each home, balancing precision and warmth. Oversized stone islands, concealed butler’s pantries, and integrated appliances are detailed with quiet rigour, privileging proportion and tactility over decorative expression.

On the upper level, a skylit gallery connects the north-facing main suite to a secondary retreat, while three additional bedrooms are articulated beneath raked ceilings. Bathrooms are resolved with natural stone, microcement, refined fittings, and a consistent material logic that links both dwellings.

The project demonstrates a clear architectural discipline: a commitment to material authenticity, controlled light, and spatial generosity.
